Sumdog – Another Good Math Game Site

From ordering decimals to the distributive property, this site has wonderful games that students will probably end up playing on their own time at home. I found this site on a lazy Sunday afternoon and was surprised to see a lot of students logged in and playing!

Sumdog

I played the games signed in as “guest,” but teachers can upload student lists and even get progress reports of student activity (this part requires a subscription). But the games are free, so even if you don’t plan on subscribing, I’d encourage you to introduce the students to the site.

Hangman

hangman
This is a hangman game that is preloaded with math, geometry, statistics, algebra or number terms (You get to select which category you want). I wouldn’t select numbers, as the words are literally “twenty” or “thirteen.”

Use this as the backdrop game for any unit. Split the class into two teams. Have students solve a problem, and if their team gets the correct answer, then they get to guess a letter.

Manga High – the BEST math games site

The games on this site are high quality and truly remarkable. From ordering decimals and fractions to factoring trinomials, they have games to suit.

Don’t have a whole class day to spend on the computer? If you have one or two computers in your classroom, consider making it a “math center” where students can rotate to. Or, assign it for homework. I’m pretty sure that this would be one assignment students wouldn’t mind doing. If you don’t sign up for your school, simply have students “Print Screen” from the available games and email you their final score snapshot.

Click on “Math Games” to try out a few yourself. Then sign up your school, after all, it’s free!
